Without giving up anything

Tapicería Sostenible: Materiales Reciclados y Diseño Ecológico

When we want to renew our wardrobe, we follow multiple criteria, ranging from our sense of fashion to the most functional pragmatism. The same thing happens when it comes time to change the upholstery of the furniture, whether for to give a more homely touch to a hybrid office or to renew the fabric of chairs after a long time of use . Whatever the case, in both cases it must be taken into account that choosing the right upholstery will be closely linked to making responsible use of resources.

For Wilkhahn, it is clear that both the furniture and the upholstery chosen must meet our sustainability criteria. The longer and better they are used, the more sustainable they are and the less wasteful they are of resources. In line with this requirement, Wilkhahn has expanded its upholstery range with three new products whose manufacturing process is already exemplary in terms of ecological standards. Introducing “Morph”, “Re-wool” and “Oceanic”, three durable upholstery fabrics produced in line with the circular economy.

Marine waste can be recycled. Plastic bottles can be transformed into synthetic fibres, which can then be woven into furniture upholstery. Alternatively, you can always turn to renewable materials that nature has to offer – for example, sheep's wool. Image: Wilkhahn

Robust textiles made from recycled materials

The wool fabric “Re-wool”, created by designer Margrethe Odgaard for kvadrat, is available in 15 different varieties.

« Re-wool » is a natural material from the Danish manufacturer Kvadrat and created by designer Margrethe Odgaard. It is made from 90% wool, 50% (approx.) from waste generated by the company's own spinning mill in Great Britain . It is characterised by an exceptional depth of colour and an embossed surface that adds dynamism to the furniture.

"Morph" by Gabriel stands out for the optical depth given to it by the layered and crossed effect of the thread.

« Morph » is the work of Danish manufacturer Gabriel. It is made of 85% sheep wool . It is therefore obtained from clearly natural, renewable and recyclable sources . It has a criss-cross weave that adds depth to the upholstery and, consequently, to the furniture.

The “Oceanic” fabric by Camira uses recycled Seaqual yarn.

The " Oceanic " upholstery, by the British manufacturer Camira, It is made entirely from recycled plastic waste . Specifically, it is obtained from plastics extracted from the sea and from plastic bottles that are processed to give them a second life in the form of a thread called Seaqual. It is a particularly robust material and is available in a variety of different colours that allow it to adapt to any environment and design.

These three new upholstery fabrics meet Wilkhahn's requirements as a pioneering company in design and care for the environment, since We combine the design of high-quality furniture for homes and offices with the use of innovative materials. that allow us to work with closed and sustainable utilization cycles.
